I recently thought about revising my CV and reflected on the way technology has impacted HR practice across the entire employment lifecycle. In doing so, I also considered how the Information Technology professionals captured their capabilities and experience on their CVs. This made me ask myself, “What tools and technologies am I familiar with that are used in HR practice across the employment lifecycle?”

The rapid advancement of technology has substantially changed and continuses to evolve the landscape of HR management. To stay on top of their game, HR practitioners need to upskill or reskill in the latest software and applications available. In this post, we will explore some low-cost, cutting-edge technologies that are revolutionizing the HR landscape. If you do not have these, you are most likely going to miss out on potential top-notch job opportunities.

What software solutions or applications can be used at what stage of HR practice?

  1. Recruitment Tools: Artificial Intelligence (AI) has made significant inroads into the HR world, particularly in the recruitment process. AI-powered recruitment tools, such as chatbots and applicant tracking systems, can help HR professionals identify and engage with top talent more effectively and efficiently. These tools save time and resources by automating repetitive tasks, such as screening resumes, scheduling interviews, and answering candidate queries. Some applications used here include Zoho Recruit, Taleo, HireVue
  2. HR Management Systems: Cloud-based HR management systems offer a centralized, easily accessible platform for managing employee data, payroll, benefits, and performance management. Examples include Zoho People, BambooHR, Workday, and ADP Workforce Now. These systems allow HR practitioners to access and manage information from anywhere, improving collaboration and reducing the need for physical storage space.
  3. Learning Management Systems (LMS): A Learning Management System (LMS) is an essential tool for HR professionals responsible for employee training and development. Platforms like Moodle, TalentLMS, Docebo, and LearnUpon, Articulate 360 and Articulate Rise enable organizations to create, deliver, and track employee training programs, ensuring compliance and promoting continuous learning and growth.
  4. Employee Engagement Platforms: Employee engagement is crucial to retaining top talent and fostering a positive workplace culture. Tools like Slack, Microsoft Teams, and TINYpulse facilitate real-time communication and collaboration, enabling HR practitioners to gather feedback, recognize achievements, and build a sense of community among employees.
  5. Performance Management Software: Performance management software, such as 15Five, Lattice, and Betterworks, simplifies the process of setting goals, tracking progress, and providing feedback. These platforms encourage regular check-ins and help HR practitioners develop a more agile, continuous performance management approach.
  6. Employee Wellness Apps: Employee wellness apps, like Limeade, Virgin Pulse, and Wellness360, support HR professionals in promoting employee health and well-being. By offering features such as fitness challenges, mental health resources, and personalized health coaching, these apps help create a healthy and productive work environment.
  7. Video Interviewing Platforms: Video interviewing platforms like Zoom, Microsoft Teams, and HireVue allow HR professionals to conduct remote interviews, expanding the talent pool and reducing travel costs. These tools also enable asynchronous interviews, where candidates record their responses to pre-set questions, making the process more flexible and efficient.
  8. People Analytics Tools: People analytics tools, such as Microsoft PowerBI, Visier, PeopleInsight, and Tableau, empower HR practitioners to make data-driven decisions by analyzing workforce data. These tools help identify trends, uncover insights, and predict future outcomes, enabling HR professionals to optimize talent management strategies.
  9. Compensation Management Software: Compensation management software, like PayScale, beqom, and Salary.com, assists HR professionals in developing fair and competitive compensation packages. By analyzing market data, these tools help ensure organizations attract and retain top talent while maintaining budgetary constraints.
  10. HR Chatbots: HR chatbots are becoming increasingly popular for providing employees with instant access to information, such as company policies, benefits, and procedures. Platforms like Leena AI, Talla, and Spoke can automate routine inquiries, freeing up time
  11. Change Management Software: Change management software like PROSCI®’s ADKAR, WalkME and Cognician assist in digital change management as well as culture change management by providing both guided change support as well as data for decision-making by HR practitioners and management.
  12. Communications Software: Communications software includes graphic design as well as social media management tools that HR practitioners can use.  Some examples include Canva for “drag-and-drop” graphic design, Zoho Social, HootSuite and Buffer for multi-account social media management.

A lot more alternative software exists for each of the components of the employment lifecycle than what is mentioned here. If you are not familiar with any of these technologies, you might want to invest some time in learning or getting certification in the use of at least six of these just to keep up with potential competition.

You can book a session with CoachAndeh if you need mentoring in the use of technologies in any of these specific areas
